Since 2017, IBPA has published an Industry Standards Checklist for a Professionally Published Book. Publishers can download and use this free checklist to gauge for themselves the presentation standard of their books vis-à-vis professional standards.
In an effort to help provide a clearer understanding of the differences between traditional publishers, hybrid publishers, and self-publishing service providers, IBPA has published an 11-point checklist that describes a hybrid publishing business model. At a minimum, a publisher that describes itself as hybrid publisher should adhere to ALL 11 points in IBPA's Hybrid Publisher Criteria. Download the checklist to determine if a publisher is a hybrid publisher.
An overview and resource for the book publishing industry and for authors looking at different pathways to getting their creative works published. It defines the eight main types of publishers today and their respective business models: (1) Corporate Trade Publishers, (2) Independent Publishers & Small Presses, (3) Association, Society & Non-Profit Publishers, (4) Higher Education & Academic Publishers, (5) University Presses, (6) Hybrid Publishers, (7) Author Publishers, and (8) Publishing Service Providers.
